Anyone interested in training for employment in mental health is encouraged to apply. This includes individuals who have experienced mental illness, are medically stable, and would like to pursue mental health careers. A high school diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED) is required. The program may be completed in one year. However, the courses may be taken over several semesters for part-time students. MERGE program credits are applicable towards an associate degree; six courses in the program are part of the core Human Service curriculum. Transfer credit will be granted for courses previously completed that fulfill certificate requirements.
Capital Community College in Hartford offers a Mental Health Option in the Social Services Department. Norwalk Community College, Norwalk, offers a 29-credit Mental Health certificate program
